Reception to mark LDC graduation

The UN-OHRLLS, the Committee for Development Policy of DESA and Canada are organizing a reception on Thursday 15 March 2018 at the UN Headquarters in New York, to mark the fulfilment of graduation thresholds by a considerable number of LDCs. The Committee for Development Policy, in its triennial review in March 2018, will identify the graduation status of LDCs.

The Istanbul Programme of Action (IPoA) has set an ambitious goal of enabling half the number of LDCs to meet the criteria for graduation by 2020. Graduation of a country testifies its long-term socio-economic progress and its increased ability to deal with various external shocks and crises. It also represents the success of the United Nations and the global partnerships for sustainable development in realizing this key objective of the IPoA. The event will celebrate the fulfilment of the graduation criteria by a number of LDCs.

The Permanent Representatives and Heads of UN Agencies are cordially invited to the event.
